"GIS: a valuable tool in geotechnical risk assessment"
The presentation will give an overview how GIS –systems can be a valuable tool in Risk management for inner city underground construction projects, both in the design and in the execution stage. The presentation will start how Geo risk management is done in CRUX projects. This is illustrated with examples of project such as the Amsterdam museum “Our Lord on the Attic”, the underground parking garage Boerenwetering in Amsterdam and the bored tunnel “Rotterdamsebaan” in The Hague. To finalize the presentation, expected developments for the coming 10 year are given.
About the speaker
Jacco Haasnoot is director and senior Specialist at CRUX Engineering and head of the Delft office of CRUX. He graduated in 1995 as a Mining Engineer, TU Delft, with Engineering Geology as it specialization. He has been active in the field of geotechnical engineering and underground construction ever since, initially at Tauw and Witteveen+Bos and since 2005 he holds its present position at CRUX Engineering. Jacco worked on large infrastructural projects such as the North/South Line in Amsterdam, but also a variety of small scale inner city projects. He has a lot of experience with finite element design and ground improvement techniques. On ground freezing Jacco is one of the few specialists in the Netherlands. CRUX designed the large scale freezing works at Rotterdam Central Station and the remedial freezing measures for the station boxes of the North/South Line. At present the focus of Jacco is on the monitoring of the bored tunnel Rotterdamsebaan, 2nd opinions and developing underground energy storage techniques.
